Trump Petitions Supreme Court to Resume White House Ballroom Construction

Donald Trump has petitioned the Supreme Court of the United States for an emergency order to continue construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom at the White House. The project, which includes a security bunker and required the demolition of the East Wing, faces a court-ordered halt on above-ground work scheduled for August 21.

Two lower courts previously ruled that the project violated the law by proceeding without congressional authorization. The United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit determined that Congress maintains control over federal property, ruling that the decision to construct a massive ballroom is not a matter for executive self-help.

Trump describes the facility as a "desperately needed Military Center" and claims it will be funded by private donations. However, Democrats allege the administration is diverting nearly $400 million in Secret Service funds to pay for the project. The National Trust for Historic Preservation, which was granted standing to sue based on architectural and historic interests, remains the primary legal challenger to the construction.
