Democrat Bob Harvie Flips Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District
Bob Harvie defeated five-term Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick to win the U.S. House seat in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District.
Bob Harvie, a county commissioner from the Philadelphia suburbs, won the election for the U.S. House of Representatives in Pennsylvania's 1st Congressional District on Wednesday. The Associated Press declared Harvie the winner at 12:37 a.m. EST, confirming the defeat of five-term Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick.
Harvie campaigned on criticisms of Fitzpatrick's perceived failure to challenge President Donald Trump on affordability issues, specifically tariffs and gas prices. He also targeted Fitzpatrick's lack of public town halls during his tenure. House Democrats had identified the 1st District as a key seat to flip during this cycle.
Harvie received campaign support from Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. The victory removes a long-standing Republican presence in a district comprising the suburbs of Philadelphia.
