White House Voter Roll Purge Yields Few Convictions

Donald Trump pressured federal agencies to deploy a technology platform designed to identify noncitizens on voter rolls in an effort to influence the midterm elections. The initiative was carried out by Homeland Security Investigations despite internal warnings that the system would produce an "ungodly" number of false positives.

A ProPublica investigation found that the operation has been largely unsuccessful. The effort resulted in only a few dozen noncitizen voter prosecutions nationwide and even fewer convictions, failing to meet the objectives set by the White House.
