Anutin Charnvirakul Promotes Thailand as Global AI Hub
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced a strategy to attract foreign investment in AI and semiconductors through streamlined licensing and new trade agreements.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul announced that Thailand is returning to the attention of global investors following his election victory earlier this year. Speaking at the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore on October 7, Anutin characterized attracting foreign direct investment as a "do-or-die policy" intended to shift the country's image from a source of cheap labor toward advanced industries, specifically artificial intelligence and semiconductors.
To reduce bureaucratic delays, the administration launched the Thailand Fast Pass program. This initiative streamlines licensing and establishes the Board of Investment as a single point of contact for foreign companies. Anutin reported that foreign direct investment has increased by 30% since the start of the year.
Looking toward international trade, Anutin expects to sign a tariff agreement with the United States during President Donald Trump's anticipated visit to Asia in November. Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkaeow has supported these efforts through international travel to promote the country's investment potential.
