Investors Shift to Real Assets Amid Global Currency Debasement

Investors are increasingly pivoting toward gold, silver, and Bitcoin to hedge against fiat currency devaluation driven by high global debt and inflationary government spending.

Investors and financial media are increasingly adopting the debasement trade, a strategy designed to protect portfolios against the devaluation of fiat currencies. This trend is fueled by extreme global debt levels, with the United States nearing 120% of GDP and Japan exceeding 260%. Market participants expect governments to utilize deficit spending and low interest rates to reduce the real value of this debt through inflation.

Donald Trump, as President of the United States, has reinforced these views through his commitment to inflationary policies and his proposed Big Beautiful Bill. Consequently, there is a growing shift toward real assets, including gold, silver, and Bitcoin. Some observers point to the weaponization of the U.S. dollar and the transition of central bank reserves away from U.S. Treasuries toward gold as evidence of a long-term move toward durable, neutral assets.

Despite the trend, real asset prices remain volatile. Gold recently suffered its largest daily decline in over a decade, dropping 6% in a single day. Analysts attributed this specific dip to a combination of easing hostilities between the U.S. and China and reduced liquidity in Indian markets during the Diwali festival.
