Canadian Senator Todd Lewis Dies at Age 65

Senate Speaker Raymonde Gagné announced the death of Todd Lewis, a Saskatchewan senator and lifelong farmer, who died on July 31 at the age of 65. A professional agrologist and fourth-generation farmer, Lewis operated a family farm near Gray, Saskatchewan, for more than 40 years.

Former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau appointed Lewis to the Senate on February 7, 2025, where he served as a member of the Canadian Senators Group. His extensive career in agricultural advocacy included serving as president of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan from 2016 to 2022 and holding vice-presidency roles with the Canadian Federation of Agriculture between 2023 and 2025.

Lewis also maintained a long record of local public service, including two decades as a council member for the rural municipality of Lajord. He previously served as a school board member, volunteer firefighter, and community rink board president.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe issued statements honoring Lewis as a dedicated public servant and a powerful voice for rural communities. A memorial service for the senator is scheduled for August 6 in Regina.
