Arundhati Roy Claims Youth Protests Destroyed Modi's Image

Author and activist Arundhati Roy claimed on August 3, 2026, that youth protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party at Jantar Mantar destroyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 24-year public image in just two weeks. Speaking at the India International Centre in New Delhi during the launch of her book "Meri Maa, Meri Gangster", Roy described the mobilization as a political victory bigger than any election.

Roy praised the maturity and coordination of the young protesters but warned that the movement's ultimate success depends on whether the government retains control over democratic institutions. She urged civil society and opposition parties to collaborate to defend these levers of power and adopt the coordination strategies demonstrated by the youth participants.
