Stephen Moore Urges Trump to Launch Marriage Commission

Former senior economic adviser Stephen Moore has called on President Donald Trump to establish a national bipartisan commission on "Rediscovering Love, Marriage and Parenthood" to combat declining marriage rates in the United States. Moore characterizes the trend as an economic catastrophe and a threat to the nation's future.

Data from the United States Census Bureau shows that married couples headed only 47 percent of households last year, a sharp drop from 78.8 percent in 1949. Among men aged 18 to 39, the number of unmarried individuals rose to 30.4 million in 2025, representing a 47 percent increase since 2000, while the number of married men in that demographic fell by 15 percent to 15.4 million.

Moore and other analysts attribute this decline to a decrease in religious adherence and the increased financial independence of women through higher education and income. Moore links the lack of marriage to rising rates of depression, suicide, alcoholism, and violent crime among young men.
