Democrats Target Trump Over AI and Data Center Profits

Democratic leaders are linking President Donald Trump's $2.2 billion wealth increase from AI investments to growing public opposition toward data center expansion.

Democratic Party leaders are intensifying campaign efforts to link the personal wealth accumulation of Donald Trump to public grievances over the expansion of data centers. Trump has reportedly increased his wealth by $2.2 billion, primarily through cryptocurrency and investments in AI-linked facilities.

This financial growth coincides with rising public opposition to data centers due to concerns over water usage, environmental impacts, and electricity costs. A July Fox News poll found that 70% of respondents oppose the placement of such facilities in their local areas. While Trump has encouraged governors and mayors to attract these plants for their economic benefits, Democrats are framing his gains as corruption.

House Democrats plan to hold an accountability hearing in September to investigate these profits. House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries has promised to hold officials accountable for corruption if the party regains control of Congress. The political tension follows significant financial support for Trump from AI industry leaders, including Elon Musk of xAI and OpenAI President Greg Brockman.
