Troy Jackson Leads Susan Collins in Maine Senate Poll
Democrat Troy Jackson holds a narrow lead over Republican incumbent Susan Collins in a new Washington Post poll for Maine's U.S. Senate race.
A Washington Post poll released Friday shows Democrat Troy Jackson holding a 50% to 46% lead over Republican incumbent Susan Collins in the race for Maine's U.S. Senate seat. The survey, conducted between September 30 and October 5 in partnership with the George Washington University Schar School of Policy and Government, falls within a 3.6 percentage point margin of error.
Jackson, a former state Senate president, leads Collins among independent voters 53% to 40%. The polling follows a ProPublica report concerning a past FBI investigation into whether Collins engaged in a pay-to-play scheme involving government contracts, an allegation Collins denies. While voters credited Collins for her bipartisanship and success in securing federal funding, 52% viewed her 30-year tenure in the Senate as a negative, and 58% believe she sides with President Donald Trump too often.
In the race for Governor of Maine, Democrat Hannah Pingree holds a double-digit lead over Republican Bobby Charles and Independent Rick Bennett. David Farmer, a senior campaign advisor for Jackson, stated that the results show Jackson is connecting with voters on issues that matter most to Mainers.
