Shehbaz Sharif Inaugurates Pakistan's Largest AI Data Center

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Sky47 Karakoram One AI cloud facility in Islamabad to boost the national digital economy and secure national data.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir inaugurated Sky47 Karakoram One in Islamabad on July 24, 2026. The facility is Pakistan's first and largest purpose-built AI-ready data center campus, designed to support high-performance computing, machine learning, and cloud services while ensuring sensitive national and commercial data remains within the country.

Developed by Sky47 Limited—a subsidiary of Mari Technologies Limited and Mari Energies Limited—the 8.5 megawatt facility was completed through a collaboration of military and civilian professionals with contributions from partner ZTE. The infrastructure is intended to host critical workloads for government organizations, financial institutions, telecom operators, and healthcare providers. The government plans to integrate public institutions with the center to accelerate digital transformation and improve public service delivery.

Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated the launch initiates a new era of artificial intelligence for the national digital economy. Following the Islamabad opening, officials announced plans for a second 5MW data center at Port Qasim in Karachi, which is scheduled for completion in September.
