Andy Burnham Considers Reversing Brexit Over Russian Interference Claims
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering rejoining the European Union, alleging that Russia manipulated the 2016 Brexit referendum to decouple the UK from the bloc.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham is considering reversing Brexit and rejoining the European Union, citing what he describes as clear Russian interference in the 2016 referendum. Burnham claims the Federal Government of Russia manipulated the vote to isolate the United Kingdom from the EU and asserts that Russia similarly instigates the politics of pro-national-sovereignty figures in France and Germany, such as Marine Le Pen and Alice Weidel.
These assertions contradict previous parliamentary investigations. The Electoral Commission previously found no evidence of successful Russian interference in the EU Referendum. Despite these findings, Burnham stated that documenting these claims helps voters in France and Germany understand how Russian influence operates.
Within the Labour Party, members reportedly support rejoining the European Union. However, there is internal opposition to holding a new referendum to allow voters to decide the matter.
