Hispanic Voters Shift Toward Democrats Over Trump Policies

Hispanic voters are increasingly distancing themselves from the Republican Party, driven by economic dissatisfaction and aggressive immigration enforcement. A New York Times poll reveals that 80% of Hispanic voters disapprove of Donald Trump's economic record, with 68% reporting that the economy has worsened over the past year.

This shift follows a period of growth for the Republican Party, as Trump achieved a record 46% of the Hispanic vote in 2024. However, current trends show that four out of five Hispanic voters now favor Democratic control of the next Congress. The decline in support is attributed to rising prices and a sense of insecurity caused by the use of armed United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for domestic arrests.

Republican Representative Maria Elvira Salazar has publicly criticized the administration, stating that enforcement efforts have failed to distinguish between criminals and legal residents. Despite the movement away from the GOP, political analysts note that Hispanic voters do not necessarily feel a renewed affinity for the Democratic Party, which many still view as disconnected from their culturally conservative values and social views.
