Domestic economic strain has intensified as gas prices exceed $4 per gallon, with U.S. households spending over $72 billion in increased fuel costs. Approximately two-thirds of voters now describe grocery costs as unaffordable. Despite these pressures, Trump recently delivered a speech on voter fraud to pressure Congress into passing the SAVE Act, a bill critics claim could disenfranchise up to 21 million voters.

Republican lawmakers and strategists have expressed concern that the president is prioritizing personal grievances over the cost of living, potentially alienating swing voters before the 2026 midterm elections. Senator John Kennedy noted that voters are primarily worried about the cost of living, while Representative Thomas Massie argued that claims of unfair elections will fall flat with swing voters.
