Elon Musk Spends Record $474 Million in 2026 Midterms
Elon Musk contributed a record $474 million to Republican causes and candidates during the 2026 midterm election cycle.
Elon Musk contributed approximately $474 million to various political groups and candidates during the 2026 midterm election cycle, marking the highest amount ever spent by a single non-candidate donor in one cycle. The spending follows a period of public fallout and subsequent reconciliation between Musk and Donald Trump.
Musk directed $216 million to his own super PAC, America PAC, which utilized the funds for extensive field operations, including $47 million for a state judicial race in Wisconsin. He also provided $168 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and $30 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund. A significant portion of his financial effort, totaling roughly $224 million, supported Republican nominee Ken Paxton in Texas.
Democratic lawmakers have responded by indicating they will scrutinize Musk's federal government contracts and his leadership of the Department of Government Efficiency if they regain control of Congress.
