Hakeem Jeffries Claims Democrats Poised to Regain House Control
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries says his party is on track to win the House majority in the November 3 midterm elections.
House Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries announced Sunday that his party is on track to regain control of the House in the November 3 midterm elections. Jeffries aims to repeat the 2018 Democratic sweep by flipping conservative districts won by President Donald Trump in 2024. He claims that Republican redistricting efforts in states such as Texas and Florida have backfired, leading the Democratic campaign arm to add eight target districts in Kansas, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Washington to its map.
President Donald Trump is campaigning in red states to mobilize his base, promising voters $5,000 cash dividends and $90 Medicare premium payments for seniors if Republicans maintain control. House Speaker Mike Johnson is simultaneously campaigning across 20 states to protect the Republican majority.
While Republicans currently hold a fundraising advantage, they face political pressure from high gas prices linked to a war with Iran. Early voting is currently underway as both parties vie for the majority.
