Rajnath Singh Suspends Indus Water Treaty Amid Terror Warnings

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty on June 14, 2026, as a punitive measure against Pakistan for supporting terrorism. Speaking during the unveiling of a statue of Maharana Pratap in Agra, Singh warned that the move would force Pakistan to struggle for basic necessities, including food and water.

Singh asserted that the Indian armed forces now have full freedom to eliminate terrorists, including the authority to cross international borders if necessary. He claimed that the chiefs of the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy expressed immediate readiness to conduct operations against Pakistan following recent terror attacks. He contrasted this stance with the perceived soft approach of previous Congress-led governments.

Linking these security measures to the governance philosophy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Singh cited the abrogation of Article 370 and the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya as examples of fulfilled promises. He also highlighted India's status as the fastest-growing major economy and noted the development of Uttar Pradesh as a mobile phone manufacturing hub.
