Federal Websites Suffer Outages and Data Alterations

Several federal websites have experienced outages and data disappearances, raising concerns about mass tampering with government information during the second term of Donald Trump. The reginfo.gov website, which manages public comments on agency data collection, went offline last weekend and remains only partially restored, with data missing from after August 1.

These disruptions follow a pattern of instability seen earlier in the year. In February, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's health data portal was taken down entirely, and the United States Census Bureau reported several days of unavailability for its most comprehensive survey of American life.

Beyond technical outages, researchers published findings in The Lancet indicating that nearly half of 232 federal public health data sets were substantially altered during the first quarter of the year. These modifications primarily involved the replacement of the word "gender" with "sex."
