Nigeria Targets $1 Trillion Economy by 2030
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced Nigeria is on track to reach a $1 trillion economy by 2030 following a 4.43 percent GDP growth in early 2026.
The Nigerian federal government announced that the country is on track to achieve a $1 trillion economy by 2030. This target is supported by a real GDP growth of 4.43 percent in the second quarter of 2026, with the Federal Ministry of Finance reporting that 27 economic subsectors expanded by more than 3.0 percent.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu stated that the next phase of the Renewed Hope agenda will focus on converting macroeconomic stability into microeconomic prosperity. The administration is specifically targeting food security, job creation, and the reduction of inflation. To facilitate this growth, the president outlined a strategic trade architecture that includes the development of five deep-sea ports in Lagos, Ondo, Ibom, Port Harcourt, and Calabar, linked by a national network of super highways and rail.
Economic indicators for the first quarter of 2026 showed a merchandise trade surplus of approximately N7.54 trillion and a significant increase in non-oil revenue. In related discussions, Isa Yuguda defended the removal of fuel subsidies, citing the inefficiency and fraudulent claims associated with the previous regime.
