Lockheed Martin and US Department of War Accelerate AIM-260 Production

The United States Department of War and Lockheed Martin signed a framework agreement to accelerate the production and delivery of the AIM-260 Joint Advanced Tactical Missile (JATM). Designed for use with F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II aircraft, the JATM provides an asymmetric advantage against enemy air threats. The pact aims to provide long-term demand signals to the munitions supply chain, enabling critical investments in workforce, manufacturing capacity, and production efficiencies.

This initiative is part of a broader effort to expand the Arsenal of Freedom under the vision of President Donald Trump and Secretary Hegseth. The agreement serves as the foundation for a future multiyear procurement contract pending Congressional approval and was developed through collaboration between the Navy, the Air Force, the Munitions Acceleration Council, the Economic Defense Unit, and the Office of the Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment.

Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment Michael P. Duffey stated the announcement reflects a commitment to sending clear demand signals across the defense industrial base. Additionally, Australia has invested nearly $736 million to equip the Royal Australian Air Force with the missile system to enhance regional deterrence and interoperability.
