Trump Says Ilhan Omar Could Face Jail or Deportation

President Donald Trump stated Representative Ilhan Omar could be imprisoned or deported following a federal raid on her home over alleged immigration fraud.

President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Representative Ilhan Omar could face imprisonment or deportation to Somalia, describing the Democratic lawmaker as a "sick, a very dishonest person who hates our country." The comments followed a raid on Omar's Washington home by Homeland Security Investigations agents, who seized her passport, phone, computers, and notebooks.

Federal officials are investigating whether Omar was 18 rather than 17 when she derived citizenship through her father in 2000, a discrepancy that could lead to denaturalization. While Omar characterizes the probe as a politically motivated attempt by the Trump administration to intimidate her before the November 3 midterms, other reports indicate the investigation began under the Biden administration and was authorized by a Democratic judge.

Omar denied all allegations of wrongdoing and posted a video to TikTok requesting financial donations from supporters to fund her legal defense. She vowed to continue campaigning in Minnesota's 5th District to hold the administration accountable. During an Oval Office event, Trump further criticized Omar's Somali heritage and the state of governance in Somalia.
