Polls Show Declining Voter Confidence Ahead of 2026 Midterms

Recent polls reveal widespread voter doubt regarding election accuracy and noncitizen voting as the Trump administration pushes for stricter citizenship verification.

Public confidence in the accuracy of the 2026 midterm elections has declined, according to recent polling. A NewsNation-Decision Desk HQ poll conducted by TrueDot.ai found that only 46 percent of likely voters believe all votes will be counted accurately, a drop from 55 percent in a July Pew Research Center survey. Concerns are particularly high regarding mail-in ballots, with 27 percent of respondents questioning their accuracy.

Simultaneously, a Voters' Voice Poll conducted by Noble Predictive Insights found that 54 percent of registered voters are concerned about noncitizens voting. This concern is sharply divided by party, with 80 percent of Republicans expressing worry compared to 33 percent of Democrats. Hans von Spakovsky of Advancing American Freedom has urged states to implement citizenship verification to prevent the dilution of eligible votes.

The Trump administration has prioritized the prosecution of noncitizens who vote in federal elections. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security initially alleged that nearly 16,000 noncitizens were on Nevada's voter lists during an August investigation, though the agency later reduced that figure to 185. Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar refuted these claims, asserting that every individual on the list is a citizen.
