Australia and India Expand Strategic Defense and Energy Ties

Australia's High Commissioner to India, Philip Green, identified India as an indispensable partner for maintaining a stable, prosperous, and free Indo-Pacific region. He stated that bilateral relations have "never been better," attributing the progress to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two nations are currently updating their defense and security statements and developing a maritime security roadmap. Cooperation efforts include the creation of a solar workforce skills academy in Gandhinagar to help India reach its goal of 10 million solar rooftops.

Additional strategic initiatives focus on the establishment of direct supply chains for critical minerals such as lithium and the expansion of STEM scholarships for PhD students. Green noted a shared commitment to countering human trafficking, cybersecurity threats, and terrorism. He further emphasized the need to support the sovereignty of small and medium-sized nations through multilateral institutions like ASEAN and IORA.
