Donald Trump Rejects Low Approval Polls Ahead of Midterms

President Donald Trump dismissed national polling showing his approval rating has fallen, claiming his actual support is closer to 60 percent.

Donald Trump dismissed national polling data showing a decline in his approval rating ahead of the November midterm elections. In an interview with The Washington Examiner, the president called the figures fake, claiming his actual support is closer to 60 percent.

This claim contradicts a RealClearPolitics average showing a 38.8 percent approval rating. Other surveys indicate deeper declines, with a New York Times/Siena College poll placing his approval at 34 percent—the lowest for a president nearing midterms since 1946—and a Reuters/Ipsos survey recording a low of 31 percent.

Trump cited his near-total support among MAGA Republicans as evidence of his popularity. However, CNN analyst Harry Enten noted a significant drop in the president's net approval on inflation, which fell from +8 points in 2024 to -45 points.
