This initiative occurs as Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey faces warnings from banks and retailers against implementing further tax rises in the October 28 budget. While AI products have contributed to recent economic growth, rising government borrowing costs linked to the Middle East conflict have left the fiscal situation precarious.

In a related effort to address technological advancement, King Charles III is hosting leaders from major AI firms, including Nvidia, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and OpenAI, at Dumfries House in Scotland this week. The summit focuses on the rapid pace of AI development and safety concerns, while Housing Secretary Angela Rayner has advocated for international cooperation to mitigate AI threats.
