Iran Proposes Two-Day Plan to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi proposed a 48-hour framework to restore normal navigation in the Strait of Hormuz following mediation by Qatar.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi proposed a two-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and restore normal navigation. Facilitated by Qatari mediation, the 48-hour framework requires the United States to implement a set of measures on the first day, which would then enable Iran to reopen the waterway on the second.
This proposal is a shortened version of previous five-day and seven-day plans. Iran has conditioned the reopening on sanctions relief, the release of frozen funds, and the recognition of specific shipping routes previously negotiated with Oman, while demanding the closure of alternative routes.
Araghchi stated that talks are moving toward implementation, though the proposal remains conditional and the United States has not publicly accepted the terms. The U.S. military maintains that the Strait of Hormuz is currently open.
