Trump Posts Gas Station Murder Video to Attack Immigration Policy

President Donald Trump shared a video of a brutal Florida murder to criticize Temporary Protected Status and the immigration policies of the Biden administration.

President Donald Trump posted an unedited video to Truth Social showing the April 3 murder of Nilufa Easmin, a Bangladeshi gas station clerk in Fort Myers, Florida. The footage depicts the suspect, Rolbert Joachin, bludgeoning Easmin to death with a hammer outside her workplace. Trump described the attack as one of the most vicious things a person could see and characterized the suspect as an animal.

Trump used the incident to attack former President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party, labeling the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program a scam. He argued that the killing should prompt judges to stop blocking his administration's immigration crackdowns and his efforts to terminate protections for over 350,000 Haitians.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security identified Joachin as a Haitian national who entered the U.S. in 2022 under TPS. While Trump claimed Joachin was an illegal alien, the Department of Homeland Security clarified that Joachin's protected status expired in 2024. Joachin, who admitted he went to the gas station specifically to kill a clerk, faces charges of first-degree murder, criminal mischief, and damage to property. Federal and local authorities collaborated to arrest Joachin on Mango Street, and officials stated he will be deported regardless of the trial's outcome.
