Trump Administration Uses Betancourt to Drive Venezuela Oil Deals
The Trump administration is partnering with entrepreneur Alejandro Betancourt to facilitate U.S. private investment in Venezuela's oil sector following the installation of Delcy Rodríguez.
The Trump administration is utilizing entrepreneur Alejandro Betancourt to increase U.S. influence and investment in Venezuela's oil sector. Betancourt, head of North American Blue Energy Partners, is acting as a facilitator to help the U.S. government identify energy assets and secure deals for private investors and smaller American wildcatters, as major oil corporations remain hesitant to return to the country.
This strategy follows the capture of Nicolás Maduro and the installation of U.S.-supported acting President Delcy Rodríguez. Preliminary agreements have already been reached with firms including Pacific Coast Energy Co. and Lionheart Capital. The White House has described relations with the new Venezuelan leadership as extraordinary, noting that oil is beginning to flow and significant funds are reaching the Venezuelan people.
Betancourt's central role has drawn scrutiny due to previous investigations in Spain, Venezuela, and the United States involving allegations of money laundering and corruption. Betancourt has denied all such allegations.
