Seyi Makinde Challenges Tinubu Ahead of 2027 Elections

Governor Seyi Makinde predicts a 2027 presidential victory over Bola Tinubu while APC supporters demand a candidate change in Bauchi State.

The Makinde-Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation, representing the Allied Peoples Movement, has declared that Seyi Makinde will defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the January 2027 presidential election. The campaign council predicts victory in 12 battleground states, including Lagos, Kano, and Bauchi, while criticizing the current administration for causing unprecedented hardship.

Governor Makinde is campaigning on a RESET NIGERIA Agenda, which proposes a four-year transitional government of national unity focused on security, the economy, and education. Speaking at the Christian Association of Nigeria's 50th anniversary in Abuja, Makinde argued that the country's primary challenge is grinding poverty rather than religious division, urging Christians to engage in politics to effect change.

Simultaneously, internal friction has emerged within the ruling All Progressives Congress. The National Patriotic Front for Tinubu, a support group for the president, has called for the resignation of Mohammed Abubakar as the APC governorship candidate for Bauchi State. The group claims Abubakar is unpopular and incapable of delivering the state in the 2027 polls, urging party leadership to field a candidate with stronger grassroots appeal.
