Shehbaz Sharif Assumes SCO Chairmanship During Kyrgyzstan Visit

Shehbaz Sharif is visiting Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 2, 2026, to assume Pakistan's chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of State for the 2026-2027 term. The Prime Minister traveled to Bishkek at the invitation of President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Zhaparov, accompanied by a delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

While in Bishkek, Sharif will participate in the SCO Council of Heads of State meeting and the SCO Plus Summit. His itinerary also includes attending the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games.

On September 2, Sharif and President Zhaparov will hold bilateral discussions. The leaders intend to review diplomatic relations and seek deeper cooperation in energy, regional connectivity, trade, investment, tourism, and education.
