Hakeem Jeffries Refuses to Rule Out Trump Impeachment

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries stated that Democrats have not ruled out impeaching President Donald Trump if the party regains control of the House of Representatives in the November 3 midterm elections. Speaking on ABC's "This Week," Jeffries noted that the party would first investigate allegations of wrongdoing and allow evidence to guide congressional action.

This position represents a shift from a statement Jeffries made in April, when he indicated that impeachment was not a top priority. He identified Representatives Jamie Raskin and Robert Garcia as the leaders who would spearhead accountability efforts should Democrats win the majority. Other priorities for a potential Democratic majority include restoring Affordable Care Act subsidies, reversing tariffs, and ending U.S. involvement in the war with Iran.

President Donald Trump, who has been impeached twice and acquitted by the Senate, responded during a rally in South Carolina. He claimed that Democrats would attempt to impeach him again despite having "no idea why."
