Russia and Ukraine Exchange Massive Drone Strikes

The Military of Russia and Ukrainian forces exchanged massive drone attacks over the weekend, resulting in civilian casualties and infrastructure damage in both nations.

The Military of Russia and Ukrainian forces engaged in a series of large-scale aerial assaults between May 30 and May 31, 2026. Russian forces deployed 229 unmanned aerial vehicles, including Shahed munitions and decoys, targeting 11 locations across Ukraine. While the Air Force of Ukraine intercepted 212 drones, 14 strike drones hit their targets. In the Chernihiv region, a strike on a commercial enterprise in the Koriukivka district killed a 58-year-old man and destroyed seven cargo trucks.

Simultaneously, Russia's Rostov region faced a massive aerial attack on May 30, during which more than 50 drones were shot down across nine districts. In Taganrog, a drone strike on a private home injured two people, and fires broke out at a port's administrative building and fuel tanks. In the Matveyevo-Kurgan district, falling debris ignited a fire at a private fuel storage facility, prompting the evacuation of nearby residents.

Governor Yuri Slyusar confirmed that emergency services responded to the fires in Rostov and reported no casualties in the Matveyevo-Kurgan district. The strikes on Ukraine coincided with Kyiv Day celebrations and followed prior warnings from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding imminent Russian aerial operations.
