Trump Launches America 250 Celebrations Amid Event Lineup Struggles
President Donald Trump is overseeing extensive Washington D.C. beautification and a series of high-profile events to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
President Donald Trump has initiated a wide-scale series of beautification projects and public events in Washington, D.C., to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Under an executive order to make the district safe and beautiful, the Department of the Interior refurbished 22 fountains, 30 statues, and thousands of streetlights, with costs estimated between $67 million and $76 million funded by National Park Service fees and endowments.
The celebrations include a diverse schedule of events, such as a UFC fight on the White House South Lawn on June 14, a record-seeking fireworks display on July 4, and a Grand Prix IndyCar race in August. The Smithsonian and Library of Congress are also hosting themed exhibits and festivals through the summer.
However, the Great American State Fair, a concert series and gala on the National Mall produced by the Trump-backed group Freedom 250, has faced setbacks after several high-profile celebrities withdrew. Trump responded on Truth Social by claiming he told the artists to stay home and asserted that he would be the primary attraction, claiming to draw larger audiences than Elvis Presley. The revised lineup now features Lee Greenwood, Christopher Macchio, and military musical groups. The shift drew criticism from MAGA influencer Matt Walsh, who ridiculed the organizers for inviting one-hit wonders and characterized the fair as a personal rally for the president.
