Audi to Build $4 Billion Factory in Georgia

President Donald Trump announced Audi will invest $4 billion in a Georgia factory to produce 200,000 SUVs annually following the imposition of import tariffs.

Donald Trump announced on Saturday at a rally in Perry, Georgia, that Audi will build its first United States factory south of Macon, Georgia. The luxury division of Volkswagen plans to invest $4 billion in the facility to produce 200,000 SUVs annually, specifically the Q7, Q8, and Q9 models, with full production expected by 2031.

Volkswagen also plans to expand its Scout Motors plant in Blythewood, South Carolina, to increase capacity by 25,000 vehicles. These investments follow a decline in U.S. sales for Volkswagen brands and the implementation of 25 percent import tariffs on foreign vehicles. Trump attributed the decision to these trade policies, stating, "Without tariffs, they would not have been coming in."

In response to the expansion, the administration and Volkswagen are discussing a framework for proportional tariff credits for automakers that increase their domestic production footprints. The announcement occurs as competitive midterm elections approach in Georgia.
