Amit Shah Orders Security Surge Ahead of INDIA Bloc Rally

Union Home Minister Amit Shah directed a security crackdown in New Delhi to prepare for a November 1 opposition rally protesting electoral roll revisions.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review at the Delhi Police headquarters on October 24, his first visit to the site since August 2022. Shah directed security agencies to deal firmly with elements attempting to disrupt law and order and ordered increased patrolling in sensitive areas using CCTV and artificial intelligence. Over 250 companies of Central Armed Police Forces have been deployed in the capital through October 31.

The security surge follows plans by the Indian National Congress and INDIA bloc partners to hold a rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. The protest targets the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which Congress general secretary K C Venugopal characterized as "Vote Chori." The opposition also plans a mock parliamentary session on October 30 regarding the impeachment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, whose resignation is being demanded by student organizations and political parties.

During his review, Shah also focused on curbing drug trafficking, dismantling overseas criminal networks, and addressing crimes against women. He addressed allegations of excessive police force used during the Cockroach Janta Party's 'Sansad Chalo' march in July. Meanwhile, the Chamber of Trade and Industry has urged Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi to postpone the November 1 rally until after November 10 to avoid disrupting business during the Diwali and Bhai Dooj festive season.
