Elon Musk Deploys $100 Million War Chest for GOP Midterms

The super PAC backed by Elon Musk, America PAC, has begun deploying a financial war chest exceeding $100 million to support Republican candidates in the 2026 midterm elections. Initial campaign-finance filings disclose approximately $800,000 spent in August on printing for mail advertisements across 15 competitive races. The largest single allocation, over $247,000, targeted the Texas Senate race to support Attorney General Ken Paxton against Democrat James Talarico.

Additional spending targeted Senate contests in Maine, Ohio, New Hampshire, Iowa, Michigan, and Alaska, as well as eight House races in Wisconsin, New York, Virginia, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Florida. The PAC also spent over $207,000 on digital advertisements in Texas, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Maine, focusing on voter registration and attacks on Democratic figures. These expenditures were signed off by Chris Young, a GOP operative and former employee of the Department of Government Efficiency.

This financial surge follows a meeting between Musk and House Speaker Mike Johnson in Texas. The commitment comes despite previous statements from Musk regarding a desire to reduce his political spending and a period of tension with Donald Trump, during which Musk criticized a domestic policy bill as "massive, outrageous, pork-filled." America PAC now plans to implement a ground game to mobilize low-propensity voters, mirroring Musk's efforts during the 2024 election cycle.
