Germany Investigates Drone Incursions at Military Base and Airport

German security forces are investigating a series of drone incursions targeting critical infrastructure and military sites. On Thursday evening, the Bundeswehr Operational Command reported two drones flying over a military base in Mechernich, prompting joint investigations by military police and local authorities in Euskirchen.

This sighting follows a more severe incident on Tuesday at Leipzig/Halle Airport. An employee discovered a drone equipped with a detonator and explosives positioned near Ukrainian transport aircraft. During that event, a cargo aircraft aborted its landing and collided with another unidentified flying object, which officials believe may have been a second drone.

Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt described the Leipzig incident as a "hybrid attack scenario carried out by highly professional perpetrators" and indicated that "foreign powers" might be responsible. The Federal Public Prosecutor's Office has assumed control of the investigation into the airport attack.
