Ed Miliband Warns Iran Against Hostile Activity on UK Soil

British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to address escalating tensions. Miliband warned that the United Kingdom will not tolerate "intimidation, threats or hostile activity on UK soil" from groups linked to Iran, specifically citing attacks on the British Jewish community.

The warning follows a report from the National Cyber Security Centre identifying Iranian state-linked actors using "CHOSEN BRICK" spyware. These actors allegedly used spear-phishing campaigns on WhatsApp and Telegram to steal sensitive emails and messages.

During the meeting, Miliband urged Iran to prioritize diplomacy and de-escalation over prolonging the war in the Middle East and discussed the necessity of reopening the Strait of Hormuz to maintain global economic stability. Additionally, the Foreign Secretary demanded the immediate release of Craig and Lindsay Foreman, British citizens from East Sussex who have been detained in Tehran's Evin prison since January 2025.
