Japan Defense Spending Expansion Unlikely to Unsettle Markets
Government adviser Takuji Aida says Japan's defense spending increases will occur over a long-term period and avoid causing significant market anxiety.
Government adviser and Credit Agricole chief economist Takuji Aida stated that expanding Japan's defense spending is unlikely to cause significant market anxiety. He noted that any increases in defense expenditures would likely be spread over a long-term period of 10 to 15 years.
Aida compared this projected timeline to the ¥370 trillion public-private investment plan for strategic sectors proposed by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. Because the Takaichi plan is designed to run through 2040, Aida suggested that defense spending would follow a similarly extended framework to maintain economic stability.
