Tinubu Operationalizes New Army Formations to Boost Security
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu operationalized new Nigerian Army formations in four states and fast-tracked military infrastructure construction to improve response times to security threats.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced the operationalization of new Nigerian Army formations in Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo, and Osun states. This strategic deployment aims to position troops closer to vulnerable communities, which Tinubu stated strengthens the military's ability to respond "swiftly and decisively" when citizens are threatened.
To support these operational changes, the Nigerian government is fast-tracking the construction of new military barracks and depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi, and Kogi states. Construction of the facilities in Osun State has already been completed.
Tinubu linked these infrastructure upgrades and a recent pay increase for servicemen and women to a broader effort to improve living conditions for personnel. He noted that "every deployment is a sacrifice made by a family too," emphasizing the government's duty to provide resources and support for military families waiting at home.
