Republican attacks have targeted Jackson's temperament, citing a 2021 incident involving a thrown water bottle during a legislative dispute and a 1988 misdemeanor assault charge. Senator Collins has also criticized Jackson's personal life, specifically noting that the mother of his children is his second cousin.
