DOJ Investigates Gavin Newsom Over Fraud and Tax Allegations
The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating Governor Gavin Newsom and his wife over alleged taxpayer fund fraud and nonprofit tax issues.
The United States Department of Justice is conducting multiple open investigations into Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The probes center on allegations that Newsom routed over 350 million dollars in taxpayer funds to preferred left-wing nonprofit charities, some of which allegedly returned money to the governor or his wife. Jennifer Siebel Newsom is specifically linked to two charities, reportedly receiving a salary exceeding 150,000 dollars from one and 4 million dollars in benefits from another.
Additional federal scrutiny involves tax issues related to a nonprofit run by Siebel Newsom and connections to Dana Williamson, Newsom's former chief of staff. Williamson recently pleaded guilty to conspiracy, mail fraud, and bank fraud after stealing from a campaign account—including funds from Xavier Becerra's gubernatorial campaign—and filing false tax returns.
Governor Newsom has dismissed the proceedings as a witch hunt and lawfare. The investigations began via a whistleblower in Sacramento but have occurred alongside public hostility from President Donald Trump, who suggested on social media that the Department of Homeland Security should arrest the governor. Critics claim the Trump administration is weaponizing federal law enforcement for political purposes.
