Eric Barlow Wins Wyoming Gubernatorial Primary Despite Trump Endorsement

State Senator Eric Barlow won the Wyoming Republican gubernatorial primary, defeating Trump-backed Megan Degenfelder to face Democrat Ken Casner in November.

State Senator Eric Barlow won the Republican nomination for Governor of Wyoming during the August 18 primary elections, defeating Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder, retired Marine Col. Brent Bien, and Curt Blake. Barlow secured the victory by approximately 16 points, overcoming a complete and total endorsement of Degenfelder from President Donald Trump and a lack of support from the Wyoming Republican Party, which had backed Bien.

Barlow, a Gillette rancher and former Speaker of the House, raised a record-breaking $1.67 million for his campaign. His platform focused on protecting public lands, funding public schools, expanding rural healthcare access, and addressing housing costs. He will face Democrat Ken Casner, who ran unopposed in his party's primary, and Constitution Party candidate Rebecca Bextel in the general election on November 3 to succeed term-limited Governor Mark Gordon.

Concurrent elections took place across the region. In Alaska, voters participated in a nonpartisan top-four primary for various state and federal seats, as well as a ballot measure to limit campaign donations. In Wyoming, high voter turnout was reported in Park County, where moderate Republican candidates saw several victories. Laramie County voters also decided on 14 infrastructure propositions for fire stations, street maintenance, and library improvements.
