Data Center Boom Drives Job Growth in U.S. Regions

Data center development is driving substantial job growth and wage increases across specific U.S. regions, creating a sharp economic contrast with neighboring areas. In Loudoun County, Virginia, employment has surged 17.4% since early 2020, with construction jobs increasing by 63% as permitted data-center space grew by 150% between 2020 and 2025.

Similar economic shifts are occurring in rural areas. In Richland Parish, Louisiana, a project by Meta Platforms Incorporated contributed to a 41% increase in private employment and a 61% rise in average weekly wages since the first quarter of 2025. These developments have also generated spillover growth in the leisure and hospitality sectors.

Donald Trump recently drew condemnation for his stance on these developments, suggesting that communities that block the construction of data centers would become "backwards and poor."
