Adam Smith Accuses Trump of Failing Iran Strategic Objectives

Representative Adam Smith, the ranking Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, accused President Donald Trump of failing to achieve strategic objectives during a six-month military conflict with Iran. Smith reported that Operation Epic Fury, launched on March 1, resulted in 19 American service members killed and over 750 wounded, while costing tens of billions of dollars.

Smith specifically highlighted an inadvertent U.S. strike on a girls' school in Minab, Iran, which killed over 150 people, most of whom were children. He criticized the Department of Defense for a lack of transparency regarding the incident and argued that the conflict actually increased Iran's negotiating leverage.

The Trump administration disputes these claims, asserting that the campaign weakened Iran's nuclear and missile capabilities. The White House described a June memorandum of understanding, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, as a historic breakthrough that ended hostilities and reopened the Strait of Hormuz to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
