United States Imposes New Sectoral Sanctions on Cuba
The United States issued a determination enabling sanctions on Cuba's electronics, manufacturing, marine, and technology sectors to target the Cuban military elite.
The United States issued a determination on November 5, 2026, enabling the imposition of sanctions on several key sectors of the Cuban economy, including electronics, manufacturing, marine, and technology.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that these measures target state-owned entities, a crude oil shipping network, and China-based suppliers that provide materials to the Cuban military. The sanctions also extend to specific individuals and entities associated with the Cuban government.
Rubio stated that the Trump Administration will not stand by while the Cuban regime directs the island’s resources to its military elite and uses Cuba as a staging ground for a global coalition of hostile anti-American actors to threaten, spy on, and plot against the United States and its interests.
