BJP and VHP Condemn Rahul Gandhi's RSS Cult Remarks
Rahul Gandhi faces backlash from the BJP and VHP after calling the RSS an all-male anti-constitutional cult on its 101st anniversary.
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi sparked a political confrontation on Tuesday by describing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as an "all male anti-constitutional cult" that views women as the property of men. Coinciding with the 101st anniversary of the RSS, Gandhi stated that his belief in Shiva-Shakti motivates his opposition to the group and claimed that many women within the organization support his political fight.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) responded with sharp condemnations. VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal accused Gandhi of "intellectual bankruptcy" and hypocrisy, questioning why Gandhi's beliefs in Shiva-Shakti do not extend to criticizing gender practices in other religious establishments.
BJP national spokesperson CR Kesavan labeled the remarks "sadistic" and "hypocritical," alleging that Gandhi has previously misbehaved with a female journalist and a woman police officer. Kesavan further criticized Gandhi for failing to take action against Congress MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who faces sexual harassment charges, and argued that the Congress party historically opposed women's empowerment by failing to pass the women's reservation bill during its 55 years in power.
