Ukrainian Defense Firms Unveil High-Speed Interceptors at Farnborough Airshow

Ukrainian defense manufacturers and international firms unveiled a new generation of high-speed interceptors at the Farnborough Airshow in England on July 21, 2026. The developments respond to the deployment of jet-propelled Shahed attack drones by Russia, which reach speeds of 500 kph and make up 15-20% of the Russian fleet used to penetrate deep into Ukraine.

SkyFall unveiled the P1-SUN Jetkiller, an interceptor capable of 370 kph scheduled for mass production in August. Other firms introduced similar capabilities: General Cherry is developing a Bullet interceptor targeting 400 to 500 kph, while Firebolt Engineering produced the Griffen jet-powered interceptor with a speed of 350 kph. Additionally, MBDA is launching a drone-countering interceptor and Lockheed Martin announced a lower-cost Patriot interceptor.

Ukrainian firms also utilized the event to showcase psychological warfare through provocative naming. SkyFall's P1-SUN is nicknamed "pissioun," a Ukrainian slang term for penis. Fire Point exhibited FP1 and FP2 long-range drones, where the designations internally stand for "Fuck Putin." State manufacturer Ukroboronprom displayed the Liutyi deep-strike drone and the Palianytsia. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy named an Ukroboronprom attack drone "Peklo" (hell), which company officials described as vengeance for Russian destruction of assets including the Antonov An-225 Mriya aircraft.
