Democrats Lead Key Senate Races as GOP Shifts Funding

Recent polling indicates Democrats have a strong chance of seizing control of both the House and Senate in the upcoming midterms. Democrats currently lead in competitive Senate races in Ohio, Texas, and Alaska, where candidate Mary Peltola leads Republican Senator Dan Sullivan 46–41. The race in Iowa remains a toss-up.

These trends have triggered financial pivots within the Republican Party. In North Carolina, the super PAC Old North Action scrapped $6.5 million in planned advertising for Trump-endorsed candidate Michael Whatley, who trails former Governor Roy Cooper. Simultaneously, the Senate Leadership Fund reduced broadcast spending in North Carolina by $900,000, shifting $400,000 toward digital ads. Representative Nancy Mace described the midterm outlook for Republicans as a "f--king bloodbath."

Amid these shifts, former Department of Homeland Security chief of staff Miles Taylor warned that the Trump administration might employ tactics to thwart a Democratic victory. Taylor suggested the administration could deploy ICE agents to polling places to suppress turnout, bypass Supreme Court rulings on mail-in ballots, or use the FBI to seize ballots.
