Germany Coordinates European PAC-3 Missile Package for Ukraine

The Government of Germany is coordinating the delivery of approximately 35 PAC-3 interceptor missiles to Ukraine, with arrivals expected in the coming weeks. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius secured the package by offering five missiles from the Bundeswehr arsenal on the condition that European partners, including the Netherlands, provide the remaining 30. The shipment also includes MANPADS, AIM-9 and IRIS-T guided missiles, and spare parts.

This initiative follows reports from Ukrainian officials that the country has received only about 600 Patriot interceptors during the four years of Russia's full-scale invasion. Dmytro Lytvyn, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, highlighted a critical scarcity driven by global production limits and high demand. In 2025, only 620 advanced interceptors were delivered worldwide, while Middle Eastern countries consumed over 800 missiles during a recent conflict with Iran.

Despite the new German-led package, the supply remains precarious. Ukraine consumes an average of 60 Patriot missiles per month, meaning the 35 missiles provide only about two weeks of coverage. To preserve these expensive assets for advanced ballistic threats, Ukraine has increasingly relied on electronic warfare, machine guns, and domestic interceptor drones to counter cheaper Shahed drones.
